'Melia Amulet' Bendomino Necklace Published in Altered Arts Magazine...a 3rd Coast Creative Coterie project!

Happy Friday Everyone!

I'm very pleased to finally be able to share my altered bendomino necklace that was published in Altered Arts Winter 2011-12 issue with you all and also share the news that I'm on Third Coast Rubber Stamps Creative Coterie again this year, woohoo ;0)

Before I get on with my tutorial I just want to quickly remind you all that I've got a DominoART design team call going on at the moment!  I've got 2 wonderful DominoARTists signed up already and will be announcing them very soon so stay tuned for that!  All the DT info is here if you're interested in becoming a DominoARTist too!

Stamps used are available from Third Coast Rubber Stamps
VB-011-K Melia Mermaid
VB-013-G Seashorse

Secure 3 Bendomino game tiles together with painters tape to make sure they don't move around while stamping.  Stamp both images with Coat Black Ancient Page dye ink and heat set the ink with a heat tool.

Use my signature "Sharpie Domino Queen" technique to colour the entire piece.  I used a combination of Almond and Coconut on the Mermaid's skin with Plum and Sky Blue Sharpies on her face.  Her hair is a mixture of Brown, Marigold and Dandelion and her tail and clothing is a blend of Plum and Sky Blue.  Colour the Seahorse with a combination of Spruce Green, Sky Blue and Dandelion yellow.

Now for the watery background...draw in the swirls with Blueberry then blend and shade with the Sharpie called Surf...how fitting is that ;0)

Add blue and green metallic details to both images with EK Success Metallic Writers.  You can see the metallic shine better in the pic on the right.  The metallic ink needs a little help to dry on the slick surface so speed up the process with a heat/embossing tool.  Hold the tool further away than you're used to for melting embossing powders to avoid blowing the ink around.  Once the inks are dry adhere the Bendominoes together with G-S Hypo Cement or you can use E6000 adhesive.  Seal the pendant with Krylon Artist's Workable Fixative and then a coat of DecoArt's Triple Thick glaze.  Add dimensional 'water droplets' to the water background with Judkins Diamond Glaze.

Adhere two silver leaf charms to the back of the pendant with G-S Hypo Cement to form the bails and attach silver chain with jump rings and complete the necklace with a lobster claw clasp.

I hope you enjoyed checking out my tutorial and I'd love to hear what you think of my Amulet...did you see it in the Altered Arts magazine when it was released?

Also check out a few of my projects here if you'd like more info on my "Sharpie Domino Queen" Technique too :0)
