The challenge is to create Domino Books using Rick's digi Alice Domino Book Kit!  You MUST use real dominoes for the book covers and you can combine other imagery and embellishments too.  Any dominoes will work if you're able to re-size the images accordingly.  If cute really isn't your style then you are welcome to creep them up!  The digi pages include two stories:  Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.  You can make your books double sided or just pick one of the stories to use, it is totally up to you!  This challenge will end April 24 at 7pm PST so you've got plenty of time to enter!

DominoART Challenge #1: Week 4 of Rick St Dennis Domino Books!

Hello Dominoians!

This is it, we're now entering the final week of DominoART's first challenge!  Time sure does fly in the Realm of DominoART when you're having fun ;0)  I'm absolutely loving all the entries we've received so far for
DominoART Challenge #1 - Rick St Dennis Domino Books
 sponsored by

If you're just stopping by for the first time today here's the scoop!  D'ART Challenge #1 closes on Wednesday March 27 at 7pm PST so there's less than a week left which is still plenty of time to enter!  To play in this challenge you need to create domino books specifically using the Easter/Valentine Domino Book kit provided by Rick St Dennis Digital Stamps!  The digital kit was available as a freebie for two days only and is now on sale and available for a limited time in the Rick St Dennis Etsy store!  Click the store banner above to go shopping!  Stop by the week 1 post for all the challenge info and to enter!

THE PRIZES!
For the challenge launch there will be THREE WINNERS!  Each winner will receive 3 digis of their choice from Rick's Etsy store!  How absolutely awesome is that!

To enter the challenge please click HERE and add your entry to the inlinkz collection located at the end of the post!

Today I'm sharing another one of my domino books and this time I did the Easter theme.  I was well and truly inspired by the colours of Easter eggs so chocolate browns and bright candy colours is my colour scheme for this vintage style book ;0)  Don't forget that there is a detailed tutorial on how to construct the book by Monique, the co-creator of the kit, on her blog here!

Update: my book was awarded Featured Artist over at Anything But A Card Challenges :0)

Print out the Easter/Spring page images twice and one of the covers of the RSD domino book kit onto Neenah Solar White cardstock and colour the images with Copic markers and the backgrounds with Umber Derwent Pastel and blend with a Dove Blender pen.  Add some highlights to the images with a white gel pen.  Use a standard sized domino as a template and trace around it onto the image of the rabbit with the kitty and the Spring 2013 cover and cut out.  Cut the pages so that they fit inside the domino covers.  Dominoes come in various sizes and standard generally means 1 x 2 inches but it's best to eyeball your page and cover sizes based on the actual dominoes you use coz they can vary slightly by manufacturer!

Run a strip of patterned polka dot paper (with glitter dots) through a Xyron to add adhesive and adhere it to the back of the pages.  Distress the edges of the book covers and the pages with Tim's Paper Distresser tool and edge with Tea Dye Distress Marker.  Score the folds on a scoreboard and accordion fold the pages.

Wrap both dominoes with Tim's Nostalgic Tissue Tape....I love that it says De Chocolat on the tape so HAD to feature it on both covers!  Adhere the images to the covers with Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive....I'm really loving this glue!  Put a small piece of double sided sticky tape in the center of the back domino book cover and adhere a length of ladder fiber to just one of the book covers.  Apply glue to the right hand page flap and adhere it to the domino, then adhere the front domino.

Apply Inkssentials Matte Accents to the book cover images only to emphasize and make them stand out a bit more from the background.  Close the book and wrap the fiber around both dominoes a few times and secure with a bow and you're done!  Wouldn't this make a super cute Easter gift instead of a chocolate egg....ummm scrap that....this would make a super cute gift WITH a chocolate egg, LOL!

Now it's your turn!  I sure hope to see some more of your fabulous entries so tell your friends to come and play with us!!!

Have a fabulous weekend and don't forget you can enter the challenge via the inlinkz collection located in the WEEK ONE POST!

"Quoth the Raven" Domino Magnet and Smeared Ink DT News!!

Greetings Dominoians!

Welcome to a sunny Monday morning here on my DominoART blog :0)
I'm super excited to announce that I was invited to join the Smeared Ink design team, truly an honour, and today I'm sharing my first project as an official DT member and as inspiration for their current Smudgy Antics challenge - Anything But A Card!

I used Smeared Ink stamps from their exclusive rubber club set 'Quoth The Raven' and it's also available as a digi set too.  The center portion of my magnet is a real wooden domino called a Doublecross which has been discontinued for years now I'm afraid but you might be lucky to find a game at a yard sale so keep those eyes peeled!

Stamp Mr Poe with Jet Black StazOn ink onto the domino and heat set or leave over night to dry.  Dab clear embossing ink onto the left side and apply silver embossing powderUTEE is better coz it's thicker but regular EP will work too, you just need to add another coat or two while the EP is still hot.  Heat the EP with a heat gun, ink up the SI 'Quoth the Raven' text stamp with the clear embossing ink just to protect the stamp and press the stamp into the molten EP or UTEE while its still hot.  Leave it alone for a few seconds to harden and then gently remove the stamp.  Wrap Recollections washi tape with a bird silhouette design (Michaels) around the edges of the domino and trim away the excess.  Stamp the SI raven wings onto heavy weight cardstock and fussy cut out.  Dab clear embossing ink onto the wings and add silver UTEE and then add lots of craft glue to help build up a sturdy joining point.  Adhere the wings to the domino with craft glue and colour over the dried glue with a metallic silver paint pen.  Darken the text with a fine point Sharpie marker and adhere a magnet to the back and you're done.

Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you over at Smudgy Antics...you can win a $5 gift voucher to Smeared Ink if you take the challenge!  Don't forget about DominoART's current challenge too - Rick St Dennis Easter/Valentine Domino Books!

Please give a warm welcome to Black Dragon!

I'm sure many of you are already very familiar with Black Dragon's artwork and you've seen her absolutely awesome creations here on DominoART already where I crowned her Queen of Halloween in DominoART's 31 Days of Halloween 2012 as well as snapping up 1st and 2nd place in DominoART's 24 Days of Christmas 2012 festival!
Please visit Black Dragon's blog to see more of her fabulous art!

I'm now thrilled to share the three amazing Domino Books that Black Dragon has created for D'ART #1!

Don't forget that there is a detailed tutorial on how to construct the book by the co-creator of the kit, Monique, on her blog here

Now Black Dragon's art normally leans towards the dark and twisty so she really did an amazing job on the first two 'cute' books but then of course I gave her free reign to creep up the third and I totally adore them all ;0)  Click on the photos composite to enlarge them.

All RSD images are coloured with pencils.  The two cute domino books have the images fussy cut and adhered to the dominoes with Judikins Diamond Glaze.  The creepy spring book images are cut to fit the domino shape, the faces have been altered with a pen and adhered with Diamond Glaze then embellished with Rub-On words.  The fold out book has RSD images one side and ''bunny hop'' rub-ons on the reverse.  The creepy spring book and the 'single bunny' book are made with a spine to open like a normal book.  All have ribbons to fasten them.

Please visit Black Dragon's blog to see her Domino Books post!

Now it's your turn, I can't wait to see your entries :0)
