Week 2 of D'ART Challenge #12 - "Bunny Blue domino magnet" Presentation Card

Happy Easter weekend to you all!
We're already heading into week 2 of

 DominoART Challenge #12
"Dominoes to Dye for"

I challenge you to DYE your dominoes using only the Egg Dye kits sold for colouring eggs!  So dash on out to your grocery store and grab a few different kinds before they're gone for another year!  Click HERE to enter Challenge #12!

Smeared Ink Occasions Li'l Grumpie rubber stamp
On Wednesday I shared Bunny Blue the fridge magnet I made using one of the dyed dominoes. Today I'm sharing the Easter card I made for my sister featuring Bunny Blue.  This card is a cute and clever way to present a magnet project.

I cut a hole into the embossed panel the same size as the magnet on the back of the domino and attached the panel to the front of a folded card with pop dots.  The magnet slots into the hole and can be easily removed later.  The domino is quite heavy though so to prevent the card from falling forward when open I cut the bottom edge of the back of the card at an angle to create an easel type card.  The card now slants backwards when on display!

I used Peacock Pearlescent Brilliance ink to highlight the embossed design on the front of the card and also to stamp the sentiment (Michaels brand) on the inside.  To finish off the card I added the cream sheer ribbon and bow and 4 topaz self adhesive jewels attached to each corner.

I hope you'll grab some of the eggy dye kits and come play with us!
I'm DYE-ing to see your challenge entries ;0)

Day 23: 'Eeeeeek......A Spider!' by Barb B

Hello my dear Wicked Bloggers and Followers!

Boohoo, our spooktacular 31 Days of Halloween is nearly over but the DominoART fun will be continuing with a magical new event ;0)

You are never too 'grown up' to feel the magic and wonder of Christmas so this year I'm starting a new DominoART tradition - the 24 Days of Christmas Countdown Festival!

Let's celebrate Christmas DominoART style with magical creations for 24 Days straight and countdown the arrival of Santa! There will be prizes up for grabs and the Sponsors will be announced soon!
24 Days of Christmas starts Dec 1 and ends Dec 24
Taking signs up now!
There's a PAGE with all the details but the formatting on the list won't stay put so I'm going to start creating the players list in the sidebar this week.
Email me to grab the Day(s) you'd like to create either a Christmas or Winter themed altered game art project for and you can have more than one day if you love Christmas as much as me ;0)
Now for today's fang-tastic 31 Days of Halloween project!
Barb B, my fellow Blockheads DT mate, joins us again today for Day 23 with a frightfully creepy crawling creation that MOVES eeeeeeek ;0)

Stamps used are by Penny Black (spider) and Third Coast Designs (Pumpkin Princess).

I call this a slider card. The spider can slide up and down the cord - fun for kids to play with.

The princess was stamped using Jet Black StazOn and was colored in using a Dove blender pen and Distress Inks. I used Chrystal Stickles on the fringe of her hat. I sponged blue ink onto the cardstock to make the sky.

For the domino, I used a wooden bamboo domino again. I sponged on StazOn Cotton White Ink and a bit of Brushed Pewter Distress Stain. Then I stamped the image using Jet Black StazOn. I went over the spider web with a metallic silver gel pen and colored in the spider using a bright green sharpie. I also added Chrystal Stickles to the spider.

I threaded the silver cord through the holes in the domino and attached it all by gluing the cord ends to the back of the cardstock.

See you tomorrow for Day 24 of 31 Days of Halloween and don't forget to visit all the blogs in the Smeared and Smudged 31 Days of Halloween blog hop for the chance to win lots of SAS prizes!!  I've already won 4 Scavenger Hunt prizes and I'm over the moon with glee ;0)  See Terra's blog if you're late to the freak show!

I'm proud to say that Sandra Y, the winner of DominoART's 31 Days of Halloween 2011, is back this year to amaze us with another of her horrifyingly fantastic creations ;0)

In the words of Sandra...This year, my project's general guideline was to represent some ‘normal’ people, exposed to an abnormal panic

Because I love the watercolor paints finish, I have stamped my characters heads onto white regular paper, then embossed with black powder, cut out and glued them on dominoes. I then watercolored them, and glued my dominoes on stamped and cut off bodies.

The background was created with alcohol inks, then enhanced with various stencils, stamps and inks.

Stamp credits :
Background stamps - Bone corners by Third Coast Rubber Stamps
Stylized flames on background by Stampers anonymous

Characters:
1st : head is source unknown and the body by QKR Stampede
2nd:  head by Stamp Francisco and the body is source unknown
3rd:  head by Viva Las Vegas stamps and the body is by Kaleidoscope stamps and the arms are parts of a McGill punch
4th:  head and body by Viva Las Vegas stamps

To kick of the wicked good fun here's my spooktacular domino creation for
Day 1 of 31 Days of Halloween!

This project also kicks off Blockheads' October Technique Challenge called
Precious Metals - A Compendium of Leafing Techniques demoed by me!

Enjoy ;0)

This ghoulish tombstone shaped card features my favourite little Goth Girl rubber stamp!  She is a Blockheads Paper Arts exclusive.  Isn't the photo above suitably creepy with the way the light is catching the metallic silver highlights of her eyes!

I stamped her onto a regular white domino with Jet Black StazOn ink and coloured with Sharpie markers using my signature 'Sharpie Domino Queen' technique:
Her hair is a combo of Lime Green and Kiwi.  I free hand drew in the plaid design on her dress with Purple, Violet and Stingray and the background is a combo of Banana Clip and Leg Warmer Orange.  Silver and gold metallic details were added with ultra-fine point DecoColor paint pens.  The sides of the domino are wrapped in Red Liner tape with gold Leaf applied.  The surface and sides of the dominoes are sealed with a coat of Judikins Diamond Glaze.

Continue reading to see how I made my Tombstone card!

The following photos demo how to create a plaid design using various widths of double sided tape with gold and silver Leafing applied.  Pop on over to Blockheads and take the Precious Metals challenge for a chance to win even more prizes!  Two prizes are up for grabs via their Blog and Facebook page!  Challenge starts Oct 1 and ends on Oct 21.

1.  Start by adhering strips of tape vertically on a black folded card.

2.  Peel off the paper backing on just one strip, apply the gold Leaf and brush away the excess.  Peel off the next one and so on until you've added gold Leaf to all the strips.  Adhere thinner tape strips along side each gold stripe and apply silver Leaf to each following the same method used on for the gold stripes.

3.  It really helps to keep silver Leaf from sticking to the gold Leaf if you mask each strip of tape with post-it notes as you can see in the photo.  Once all the silver vertical stripes are done lay in the horizontal stripes and apply gold leaf and then add the thinner stripes and apply the silver leaf.

Tips:  Make sure you burnish the Leafing down onto the tape especially along the edges with your finger before brushing away the excess.  You might also discover that the negative spaces between all your leafing is covered by microscopic sparkling bits  which can look really pretty and enhance your project if you're okay with that.  Otherwise just take a small piece of regular sticky tape and 'sticky roll' all the areas to remove the stray bits.

4.  Use Spellbinders largest Nested Tombstone to die cut out the shaped card.  Edge the front of the card and the interior with a gold metallic DecoColor paint pen.

5.  Die cut out a Spellbinders Fancy Label #2 from scrap cardstock and colour the entire piece with a metallic purple Promarker.  Spritz the die cut with Grape Jelly Fireworks Ink Spray for a wonderful purple shimmer (Fireworks are currently on sale over at Blockheads).  Cut the die cut in half and remove the excess so that its big enough to adhere the altered domino to it with craft glue.

6.  Embellish the card with Trick or Treat ribbon from Michaels and adhere the altered domino to the card front with glue dots.  Cut a piece of the same ribbon, knot it in the middle and dove tail cut the ends.  Adhere the 'bow' to the card with a glue dot.

Thank you to everyone for making this event possible!
See you tomorrow for
Day 2 of 31 Days of Halloween!
