Day 4: The Twelve 'Hours' of Christmas by Pam S

Season's Greetings Dominoians!

It's Day 4 of
DominoART's 24 Days of Christmas
and we've seen some truly magical creations full of the magic and wonder of Christmas already with even a touch of Creepmas thrown in too ;0)

Pam S joins us today to share her truly amazing "Twelve 'Hours' of Christmas" domino clock!

The dominoes were colored using Alcohol Inks in "Cranberry" and "Bottle". Once the ink was dropped onto the domino it was blasted with some canned air and allowed to free form. I then stamped and embossed each number on the tile and placed red dot stickers to correspond with the number. "3D Crystal Lacquer" was used to coat each domino for a glass-like effect.

The base for the clock is an old record found at a garage sale covered in a sheet of Tim Holtz paper and sanded on the edge. A "wreath-type" design was stamped onto the records using a multitude of tiny stamps using Tim Holtz "Distress Ink" in "Black Soot", "Barn Door" and "Forest Moss". The dominoes were then attached to the record using Tacky Tape from Ten Seconds Studio.

See you tomorrow!

Day 2: Christmas Tree Earrings by Barb B

Season's Greetings Dominoians!

It's Day 2 of DominoART's 24 Days of Christmas Festival and
Barb B joins us today to share her gorgeous and oh so Christmas-y earrings!

I'm happy to be once again working with my friend Leigh here at DominoART and contributing to DominoART's 24 Days of Christmas.

If you were following this blog in October, you'll know that I did a pair of earrings for the 31 Days of Halloween challenge. I thought I'd repeat the effort and change it up to Christmas. It's funny, I don't do a lot of decorating for Christmas, but I am all about wearing Christmas-y earrings allllll month long! I'm just festive that way.

For these earrings, I used bamboo dominoes. They are much lighter than the standard plastic or resin dominoes, so they work well for earrings. The stamp I used is from Stampin' Up! I'm sorry to say I have no idea what set it came from, but it's old!

I stamped the tree using my Tsukineko Glue Pad and then dusted it with Elegant Emerald Ultra Fine glitter. Make sure you let the glue dry thoroughly (about 10 minutes) before you dust off any extra glitter with a dry brush.

I topped the tree with some rhinestone stars that I probably got a Ben Franklin a hundred years ago. Then all I had to do was loop the wire through the pre-drilled holes in the dominoes, secure it with a couple of beads and attach it to the earring finding.

Although these took a bit of time, they're not overly labor intensive and they were a lot of fun to do! Now I have another set of festive danglers to adorn myself with!

Let's see what magical altered goodies tomorrow brings!

~x~
Now for my Day 1 mixed media creation!

DominoART Christmas Tree Bauble

I used 4 travel sized ivory dominoes to create the hanging center piece of my jumbo sized glass bauble.  The image, small Winter Hearth Mice, is an exclusive stamp by Blockheads Paper Arts!  They've got all 4 seasons in both small and large sets and the Hearth Mice are sooooo cute!

I picked up these pre-drilled dominoes at my local Tall Mouse (Orange County craft store) many moons ago...of course I've got a stash of them still to play with ;0)  The image was stamped with Jet Black StazOn ink and heat set before colouring with various Sharpie markers using my signature Sharpie Domino Queen technique.  I added metallic detail with a silver Sharpie and edged and coloured the sides and backs of each domino with the new bronze Sharpie marker.  I embellished all the domino sections with metallic silver snowflake rub-ons and threaded them onto gold cord.  I added the blue cat's eye beads and the silver wreath charm.

Now for my magic trick ;0)  The dominoes were inserted into the glass bauble (Michaels) 'ship-in-a-bottle' style and pulled taut with the gold cord...how awesome is that ;0)

I threaded the gold cord through the metal bauble topper, there's a gap where the wire loop goes through, and replaced the topper back onto the bauble.  I finished off with a bow made from teal and light blue organza ribbon.

Here's some more close ups of my bauble center piece!

I hope you enjoyed my DominoART mixed media Christmas Tree Bauble and that you'll stop by every day and count down Santa's arrival DominoART style :0)

See you tomorrow!

I've entered my bauble in the following challenges:

Now for my Day 31 creation!

Perfectly fitting for today's finale is my 'Clockwork Queen of Halloween' altered Doublecross domino necklace!

The image is called Halloween Queen VB-299-P by Third Coast Rubber Stamps.

I used a wooden Doublecross domino for this pendant and drilled a hole in the top edge so I could screw in a tiny brass eye-screw.  Sorry guys, this game has been discontinued for many years now but keep your eyes peeled at garage sales coz you just never know!  The image was stamped with Jet Black StazOn ink and coloured with a combination of Sharpie markers and Adirondack Alcohol pens:  Black, Burgundy and Pink Lemonade Sharpies, Rust, Slate, Butterscotch and Stream Alcohol pens.  Metallic copper, silver and gold details were added to the image with Letraset markers.

The domino was edged with a metallic copper paint pen and all 4 sides of the domino were pounced onto a Brilliance Mineral tri-colour ink pad.  I deliberately allowed the imperfections in the wood game piece to show through, which you can see in the photo below.  The top of the dagger looked like a heart so I added a jeweled heart sticker and then sealed the entire piece with Judikins Diamond Glaze.  She'd totally work for an Alice in Wonderland themed project don't you think!  While the glaze was still wet I adhered the large silver clockwork key (Bead Landing, Found Objects Charms) to the bottom of the domino.

I completed the project with various charms (Bead Landing, Found Objects) added to chain which I attached to the clockwork key holes.  I screwed in the tiny eye screw and threaded a chain through it and also embellished the top with a brass cog gear from SkyBluePink.  The cog gear on the charm chains is also from SkyBluePink too.

Stay tuned for my post tomorrow announcing the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of
31 Days of Halloween 2012
and don't forget you can now sign up for DominoART's 24 Days of Christmas Festival which starts Dec 1!

Happy Trick or Treating!  Beware all that goes bump in the night ;0)
