DominoART Challenge #12 - "Dominoes to Dye For"

TGIF Dominoians!
Thank you for the 2 fabulous entries in DominoART's Harlequin Diamonds challenge, both are equally stunning!  Sadly not enough entries to award a prize so I'm inviting you both to be a Guest Designer on DominoART!  Please email me for more info if you'd like to do it ;0)

It's now time for DominoART's next challenge

 DominoART Challenge #12 is
"Dominoes to Dye for"

This theme has always been a fan favourite!
I challenge you to DYE your dominoes using only the Egg Dye kits sold for colouring eggs!  So dash on out to your grocery store and grab a few different kinds before they're gone for another year!

5+ entries required to win a prize!  For 5 entries or less I'm now offering Guest Designer spots to the stamper of my fave projects!

I used a couple of brand new shiny dominoes and some that had been soaked in a bleach bath to remove the shiny surface.  There's so many different varieties of egg dye kits and I get different results each time.  This time I used the little dye tablets and some I dissolved in water and some in vinegar.  All were soaked for about half a day.  I also dripped dye directly onto a few and others I a toothpick to create the marbled patterns.  There's no right or wrong way to dye dominoes so just have fun and play around with the kits and see what results you get.

I'll be sharing projects I made with my dyed doms over the next few weeks but you can pop on over to Smudgy Antics right now for a peek at Bunny Blue who will be featured here on DominoART April 1st!

I'm DYE-ing to see your challenge entries ;0)

Week 3 of D'ART Challenge #11 + "50 Shades of GREEN" Blog Hop!

Happy Friday the 13th Dominoians!
WOW, I can't believe we're now entering the 3rd week of

DominoART Challenge #11
Harlequin Diamonds
and is
Any Game Goes!

I challenge you to incorporate the Harlequin Diamond pattern into any altered game piece(s) of your choice...that means dominoes, playing cards, jigsaw pieces, etc, all are fair game!

I'm back today to inspire you to join in DominoART's current challenge (link up HERE) as well as to encourage to you to participate in the Lost Coast Designs "50 Shades of GREEN" Reader's progressive blog hop that kicked off with a bang on Wednesday March 11th!  The blog hop roll is below my green and harlequin themed project today so get hopping and then make sure to read all the deets on how to participate over at Lost Coaster's Review!  Combine both themes in your altered game art and play in both events, how fun is that!!! ;0)

"SWIM TO YOUR OWN TUNE"
Domino ATC

I used Lost Coast Designs "Manga Goth With Socks"
and the music stamp from ATC Misc 7 Set.

The domino I used is slightly thinner than a standard one and therefore not as heavy and this one was from my The Simpsons stash so had pix of the characters instead of pips.  the Manga girl was stamped with Jet Black StazOn and coloured with a combination of Sharpies, Alchohol Pens and metallic green details in shades of green.  The shoulder detailing on her dress look like octopus tentacles and her necklace is a sand dollar (which I covered with a tiny green pearlescent pearl) so I was inspired to create the sentiment with my vintage Dymo label maker on green tape and added the fish bead too.

The ATC is actually a scrap from my making my 3 ATCs I shared in the blog hop on Wednesday which you'll see when you start hopping or click here!  The background is a mish-mash of inks and I grunged it up even more by stenciling the harlequin diamond pattern in 2 sizes with Forest Moss Distress Ink.  I then stamped the LCD music ATC background in black Archival Ink and I used the same stencil to draw in the diamond pattern on the domino too.  I coloured the sides of the domino black and added the harlequin diamond washi tape (Recollections) to the sides and cut a strip in half to add some to the front too.  The domino is sealed with Judikins Diamond Glaze and adhered to the ATC with E6000.  The ATC edges were distressed and stained with a metallic green permanent marker.

This is the "50 Shades of GREEN" blog hop roll!

My mixed game piece trinket box features Lost Coast Designs medium and a portion of the large sized Owl from the Owl set and portions of the large Feathers rubber stamp.

I used 4 standard sized white Dominoes for the sides, a Chekit game piece for the lid with a dice (or "die" which is grammatically correct for a single "dice") as the lid stopper!

The game pieces were all treated with Lettuce and Meadow Alcohol Inks and the images stamped with black Archival Ink.   Metallic green permanent ink was applied to the edges of all the game pieces and sealed with a coat of Judikins Diamond Glaze, except for the dice which was sealed with a few coats of Krylon Artist's Workable Fixative.

The beads I used for the lid handle and box feet were all coloured with metallic green permanet ink and the box base was cut from black cardstock.  All the box components were assembled with Judikins Diamond Glaze and E6000 adhesive.  Green pearlescent half pearls were added to complete the trinket box.

Thank you for hopping with me today, I hope I've inspired you to get out all your green supplies and join the fun by participating in our blog hop!  The blog hop roll Inlinkz collection is below!  So off you hop and see what fabulous Shades of Green projects await you!

"Pieces of Me" altered jigsaw puzzle pieces - Smeared Ink DT for Smudgy Antics!

Howzit Dominoians!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  Today I'm sharing my Smeared Ink DT inspiration project that will be up on Tuesday over at our Smudgy Antics challenge blog!

These 2 large jigsaw puzzle pieces are part of a larger project hosted by my friend Kristy Lee!  I was honoured to be invited to contribute to her "Pieces of You" project and she mailed me these 2 pieces to alter.  I've now mailed them back to her and can't wait to see a photo of the completed puzzle!

The images I chose to reflect 'Me' are the Raven, the Vampire Cat as well as portions of the Witch Hat and Pumpkins from the Smeared Ink exclusive rubber stamp set I designed, Autumn's Pencil.  The images were stamped with Tuxedo Black Momento Ink and coloured with Copic markers.  I did a lot colour manipulation within the 2 colour monochromatic colour scheme, with lots of shading and highlighting in each tiny area.  The pieces were sealed with Krylon Artist's Workable Fixative and then I applied to Judikins Diamond Glaze to just the Raven and the Cat to emphasis them.

This was a fun collaborative project to work on and I hope you enjoyed seeing "Pieces of Me" ;0)
Here's a closer look at all the details!

Don't forget to stop by Smudgy Antics and join our monthly challenges where it is always "Anything Goes"!
