So without any further delay here's the grand finale creation for Day 31 of Halloween by me!

Keeper Of Lost Souls

The Keeper of Lost Souls is a Nature Goddess and she protects the souls of people who have left this world but they're missing and are still waiting to be found by their loved ones.

This is an eerie mixed media sculpture that incorporates a skeleton with an altered super-sized domino and is a Third Coast Creative Coterie design team project.

I used a portion of the gorgeous rubber stamp image called Bromberrie's Web (VW-019-N) available from Third Coast Rubber Stamps which can be found in the Summer 2006 catalog.  Isn't she stunning!!

 SUPPLIES
Bromberrie's Web (VW-019-N) by Third Coast Rubber Stamps
Adirondack Lights Alcohol Inks:  Lake Mist, Cool Peri and Juniper
Alcohol Inks Applicator Tool
StazOn Jet Black ink pad
Super-sized domino
Sharpie markers - Lilac and Dandelion
Colorless Blender Design Art Marker
White Air Dry Modeling Clay
Inkssentials Matte Accents
Skeleton - Michaels
Crafter's Pick The Ultimate glue
Craft wire
Heat It embossing tool

I used a super-sized domino as the central part of my sculpture and removed the decals on the front of the domino with a Colorless Blender Design Art Marker.  This marker contains Xylene so please make sure you use it in a well ventilated area to avoid breathing in the fumes!  Super-sized dominoes are 1.5 x 2.5 inches in size and say super-sized on the tin - don't confuse them with the jumbo dominoes!

Apply three different Adirondack Alcohol Inks to the entire domino (front, back and sides) to create a polished stone effect.  I started with Lake Mist as the main foundation colour and then added small amounts of Cool Peri and Juniper.  The overall effect looks like lichen and moss on stone.
I then applied a coat of Inkssentials Matte Accents to the entire domino and let it dry.  I prefer to seal the domino before stamping the image to ensure I get a good stamped impression.

Stamp the image onto the domino with Jet Black StazOn ink and heat set.

Stamp the sides of the domino with different sections of the foliage from the left side of the stamp image and heat set.

I added small touches of colour to just the flowers in Bromberrie's hair and one of two flowers on the sides of the domino with Lilac and Dandelion Sharpie markers then applied another coat of matte sealer to protect the image.

The 'front' of the domino where the decals were is now the back of the piece and I left that side unstamped.  I assembled the skeleton arms and legs and secured the arms together with wire and did the same to the legs.  I attached them to the back of the domino with small pieces of painter's tape while I applied a coat of The Ultimate glue to the back of the domino and then molded a back for the piece from air dry clay to hide and secure the leg and arm joints to the domino.  The glue helps adhere the clay to the domino.  I left the clay the natural colour coz it matches the colour of the bones.  Let the clay dry and then adhere the skull to the domino with The Ultimate Glue and you're done.  The sculpture could also be a hanging ornament too and all you would need to do is embed a hook in the clay before it dries.

So that concludes our 1st DominoART 31 Days of Halloween extravaganza!
This will now be an annual event so keep your beady eyes out for 31 Days of Halloween 2012!!

Best Witches for a spooktacular Halloween Everyone!
Enjoy!

Day 28 of 31 Days of Halloween - 'Witch's Secret Force Vessel' by Jennifer W!

Hello Stampers!

It's Day 28 of 31 Days of Halloween and Jennifer W, a member of our DominoART Yahoo Group,  joins us again today to plunge us into the mystical world of a Witch and her Secret Force Vessel.

 Jennifer says:
"Today I have a Witch's Secret Force Vessel to share with you. This is a very special container forged from the witch's bloodstone, created to hold her special power once she has moved on to the next plane. To create this vessel the very stone from the table which the witch worked til her fingers bled, toiled, and practiced her magic is carved into small slabs and formed into the vessel shortly before her demise. A spell is cast upon it calling the witch's spirit into it and then it seals shut, storing her life force for eternity. This box was found deep within a witch's cave still clutched in her hand, although many have tried no one has been able to separate the two.

Ok, so it is a box made from dominoes but I thought it was a pretty cool idea. It takes eight dominoes and Amazing Goop adhesive to assemble the box. I took henna colored Ancient Page ink and distressed the edges, then using a brown and tan fine point bic marker I did hash marks all around the edges of each domino and then inked over them with the henna.

For the lid I stamped Secret Force in runes from Third Coast Rubber Stamps in henna, colored with the hash marks and distressed over it all.

Next came the heat gun to dry and set the ink, then I took a Versa Dazzle Champagne ink pad and wet the side of the box and sprinkled a bit of UTEE (just a sugaring, it gives it a cool bubbly texture). Heat set the embossing powder and move on to the next side. I did the same thing with the lid. Afterward I hit the whole thing with some Rust-oleum crystal enamel and allowed it to dry.

On the under side of the lid I positioned some sticky flat back pearls to keep it from sliding around too much.

TIP:  Skull hands:  You can pick up the hands from a party supply store, they have them listed on amazon.com too.  Just attach it with the goop and you have a spooky prop."
Stay tuned for Day 29 coz Charloltte F is back to share another one of her cauldron concoctions!

Day 27 of 31 Days of Halloween - 'Frankenstein' Mixed Media Creation by Betsy!

Howzit Stampers!

It's Day 27 of Halloween and Betsy, who is a member of our DominoART Yahoo Group, joins us today to share her freakish mixed media 'Frankenstein' collage!

Betsy altered the mini dominoes by adhering a gold napkin to them with a glue stick and also added a tiny bit of blue paint on some of the edges which you might be able to see in some spots if you click on the photo to enlarge it.  She then sealed the dominoes with Judikins Diamond Glaze.  She embellished the dominoes with red string which is thread used to sew luggage.

The Frankenstein image is a napkin (from ppd) glued on top of a collage from an old joke book, a 1956 library book with aged yellow paper which tears easily.

The "prepare yourself" in the monster's forehead was serendipitously part of the text from the book.

Betsy says her collage was placed on a large dark blue book.

Welcome to Day 23 of 31 Days of Halloween!

Paula S-M is my precious Sissypoo and also a moderator and active member of our DominoART Yahoo Group!  Paula is here today to share her spooktacular card creation that combines photography with an altered Chekit!

Paula used a photo of her stunning kitty, Mango, as the star of her mixed-media Halloween card.  She made a folded card from white cardstock and stamped the spiderweb (Inkadinkado) with Coal Black Ancient Page dye ink randomly to create the background.  She then distressed the edges of the card with Black Soot Distress Ink which she applied with an Ink Applicator.

She printed out a photo of her kitty and cut it out.  She then made a wizard's hat from black cardstock and edged it with a metallic gold paint pen.  She adhered the hat to the kitty with permanent adhesive tape and then adhered the entire panel to green cardstock which she then closely trimmed to follow the outline of the image.  She then adhered the panel to the folded card with permanent adhesive tape and embellished the hat with gold star stickers and a self-adhesive rhinestone.

She stamped the word 'Trick' (Inkadinkado) onto a Chekit game tile with Coal Black Ancient Page dye ink and heat set the ink with a heat gun.  She sealed the game piece with a coat of matte varnish.  Paula completed her card with two more rhinestones on the kitty.  Soooo cute!!!

Day 18 of 31 Days of Halloween - 'The Halloween Parade' by Sandra and Yohan!

 Hello Dominoians!
It's the 18th Day of Halloween today and boy are you guys in for a real treat!

Sandra is back to scare you with her absolutely spooktacular dominoes - they're all dressed up in Halloween costumes!  Sandra is a reader of the DominoART Blog and one of my fellow team mates on the Third Coast Creative Coterie design team!

Sandra created the skeleton, the zombie dog, the ghost and the black critter.  Her youngest son, Yohan who is 11 years old, created the angel-demon!  What a wonderful creepy collection of critters!
So sit back and enjoy their Halloween Parade of Critters!

The zombie-dog
Sandra glued 2 hollowed dominoes for the head and a third for the body.  The tongue, ears and tail are made of cardstock.  The eyes are two half-beads she colored with a red Promarker.   She added four long beads for the legs.  The dominoes were colored with alcohol inks.

The skeleton
She stamped a skull (from la compagnie des elfes) on a dice with Black StazOn ink.
Lost Coast skeleton rubber stamps were used to stamp the torso, arms and feet.  This little cutie even got it's own Trick or Treat bag made from scrap kraft paper and a piece of string which she decorated with a Jack O' lantern stamp (source unknown).

The ghost
Sandra punched a large circle out of a piece of white paper and made two 'eye' holes in one side and then draped the domino in it.  Two of the domino pips form the eyes for this adorable ghost.  The feet are two punched oak leaves.

The black Critter
Sandra wanted to create a hairy critter for this one.  So she partialy covered the domino with black fun flock.  Then she glued on stamped eyes which is a partial stamp from VivaLasVegas stamps.  The arms are twisted wire and the tentacles and the teeth are made from cardstock.  The feet are two punched oak leaves.

Yohan's little angel-demon
He first inked a domino with red alcohol inks. Then he added the mouth, feet, eyes which are made from cardstock.  He then double-punched a circle of golden cardstock for the halo and attached it with thin wire.

WOW!  That was an amazing parade!

Day 15 of 31 Days of Halloween - Witchy Elegance by Val S

Howzit Stamping Friends!
Woohoo!  We're half way through our Spooktacular 31 Days of Halloween event!
I hope everyone is enjoying all the eye-candy!

Val S, moderator of the DominoART Yahoo Group and my Mom, is sharing this stunning Halloween card featuring an altered domino with you today!

Val used white cardstock for her project and created the subtle background with a Big and Juicy Mountain Meadow ink pad.  The card is framed with Gold Mirror cardstock.  All the stamps are by Inkadinkado and she used Memento Tuxedo black to stamp all the images.  She used an orange Glaze Pen to colour in sections of the pumpkins and embellished with Amber gems.

Val got her 'Green' action on by recycling a beer can and used a Spellbinders Label die to cut out the metal mat for her domino.  She then coated the metal with Versamark ink and embossed with copper embossing powder and heat set with a heat gun.  She repeated this process 3 times to achieve that stunning copper metal finish.

Val used a standard white domino as the feature of her creation and altered it with Terracotta Adirondack Alcohol Inks.  She then stamped the witch with Ancient Page Coal Black ink and instead of heat setting the ink she embossed with clear embossing powder and sealed the domino with Judikins Diamond Glaze.  She embellished the domino with self-adhesive Amber gems and adhered the domino to the metal label with more Diamond Glaze.
Check out more of Val's creations on her new blog, Val S Craftings!

Day 14 of 31 Days of Halloween - 'One Spooky Evening' Square Domino Ornament by Leigh S-B

 Happy Day 14 of Halloween!

Today I'm sharing a hanging ornament I made from a Square Domino.  These dominoes are awesome game pieces coz they're double the width of a single standard sized domino.  But unfortunately the manufacturer of the Square doms has discontinued them so I apologize for getting you all excited if this is the first time you're seeing them!!  Booo!  Booo!  Booo to the people who used to make them!

SUPPLIES
Square Domino that you just might be lucky to find some where!
Rubber Stamp by PSX
Ancient Page dye ink pads:  Coal Black
Sharpie markers:  Yellow, Red, Orange, Purple, Brown
Silver Paint Pen
Judikins Diamond Glaze
Black Sharpie
Bat and pumpkin confetti
Black ribbon
Black fiber and cotton
Heat It embossing gun

For this project you're going to need a Square domino straight from the tin but if you can't get your hands on some then try playing with two dominoes glued together!  No surface preparation is needed because you're going to be using my 'Sharpie Domino Queen' Technique for all the colouring!  Stamp the image onto the domino with Coal Black Ancient Page dye ink and heat set.  Use Sharpies to colour in the entire design but use an extra-fine metallic silver paint pen on the moon.  Edge and colour the sides of the domino with a broad point metallic paint pen and seal the surface and the sides with a coat of Judikins Diamond Glaze.  While the glaze is drying cut a length of black fiber and a length of black cotton.  Thread the confetti bats and pumpkins onto the cotton and tie it onto the fiber at about the center mark.  Form a loop on one of the black fiber and tie a knot.  Apply a thin line of Diamond Glaze all around the sides of the domino and wrap the fiber around it.  Secure the other end at the top of the domino at the base of the loop with more glaze and let it dry.  Cut a length of black ribbon and tie a bow around the loop base and this will also help secure the glued end in place.

Want to see more of my 'Sharpie Domino Queen' Technique projects then check out my blog, Leigh S-B Designs too!
